Project overview
Located in Sarn, Bridgend, the Compost Cwtch was created to turn an overgrown and underused area into a practical community asset.
The project introduced accessible growing beds, a dedicated composting area and opportunities for local people to take part in hands-on workshops and volunteer activity.

The story
Before the project began, the site was difficult to access and had limited community use.
Working with local residents and partners, Greenspace SOS helped clear and prepare the area, install raised beds and create a space that could support growing, composting and informal learning.
The name “Cwtch” reflects the aim of the project: a safe, welcoming space where people can come together, share skills and feel ownership of their local environment.

The Compost Cwtch gives residents a place to learn practical skills, reduce waste, grow food and spend time outdoors.
It supports environmental awareness while creating a simple, visible example of how underused land can become something valuable for the whole community.
