Creating Greener Spaces Together

Working with communities across South Wales to create, improve and care for the outdoor spaces that matter to them.

Community work has been at the heart of Greenspace SOS since the beginning. We work with local organisations, residents and community groups to create, improve and restore outdoor spaces that can be enjoyed and valued by the people who use them.

Our work ranges from transforming neglected spaces into community gardens and improving school and neighbourhood greenspaces, to providing free and supported garden services for people who need additional help.

We also create opportunities for people to get involved, whether through community volunteering, corporate volunteer days or partnerships that bring people together to improve the places where they live, work and spend time.

Community Projects

We work with community groups, schools, housing providers and other organisations to transform underused and neglected outdoor spaces into places that communities can use, enjoy and take ownership of.

Projects are shaped around the needs of each space and the people who use it, and can include community gardens, growing spaces, outdoor learning areas, accessible seating, planting, habitat improvements and the restoration of existing greenspaces.

Wherever possible, we involve local people in the process, creating opportunities to volunteer, learn practical skills and play a part in improving their own community.

Garden Support

We work with housing providers and community organisations to support people who are unable to safely manage their own gardens and outdoor spaces.

Through referral and partnership programmes, we restore gardens that have become severely overgrown, inaccessible or difficult to manage, helping to make them safer, usable and more manageable for the people who live there.

This work is one of the ways we reinvest profits from our commercial services back into the communities we serve, alongside support from funded programmes and partnerships. Garden support is identified and referred through the organisations we work with.

Volunteering & Participation

We create opportunities for people to get involved in improving greenspaces across South Wales, bringing together volunteers, community groups and organisations to make a practical difference.

Volunteering can form part of our community and environmental projects, giving people the opportunity to contribute to activities such as planting, growing, habitat improvement and the creation and restoration of community spaces.

We also work with businesses and organisations to deliver structured corporate volunteering opportunities, providing practical projects that support communities while contributing to wider social value.

Working in Partnership

Partnership working is central to how we deliver community projects. We work with housing providers, charities, schools, community organisations and other partners to identify opportunities and develop projects around the needs of local communities.

From creating new community gardens and outdoor learning spaces to delivering referred garden support and larger community programmes, we bring practical delivery experience to projects designed to make a lasting difference.
